Hi! I hope you’re well! A “smiley” is a sheep’s head contorted into its namesake by the heat of the open flame grill. Braai (BBQ) is Namibia’s national cuisine and vegetarians are rare here, but tolerated. There are plenty of meatless alternatives for when I cook for myself. When I’ve been served by others, however, my 23-year streak of not eating meat has been broken… My new community has welcomed me with open arms and I’m enjoying learning more about them!
