It just dawned on me that yesterday marked one month since I left home. It seems so much longer.
In addition, one week from yesterday we will learn where in the country we’ll be posted to live and work for the next two years.
Here’s a photo taken with my Afrikaans instructor, Joel, at the Traditional Cooking Day last weekend.
I have collected stories, photos and video clips to share with you but my internet access has been sparse and the focus has been on preparing for our language midterm this weekend. I’ll post updates as soon as I can!
Sending love from California. So far, so good. What an amazing experience for everyone involved.
Keep the posts coming.
Hallo Chris
I’ve been enjoying your postings. Wow, one month already! Time does fly.
This comes to you from Stockholm, where we will soon be seeing your old friend who is extending some gracious hospitality.
In honor of your learning Afrikaans, and our bewilderment with Swedish, I’ll offer you this phrase in Afrikaans from my handy Monty Python Phrase Book:
“My skeertuig is vol palings!”
You never know when you’ll need to say “My hovercraft is full of eels.”
(You’re welcome).
David
Ha! That’s not the craziest thing I’ve said, inadvertently!
Chris, thanks so much for sharing your adventure. I am appreciating following your updates and experiences and am looking forward to what’s next for you.
Chris – great posts! Very interesting – loved the recording of the songs.
I had three buddies with me last night and we used your tickets for the Earthquakes
game – 4 across. It was a fun game! The Panamanian connection is working full steam
with Godoy and Quintero scoring all three of our goals – final 3-1 over Houston.
Cheers
Rick
Hi, Rick, and thanks! Thought of you at the Quakes game (great result!) and know you’ll also be cheering for Liverpool on Wednesday!
