Just a quick note to my Santa Cruz and Monterey Bay Area friends. Peace Corps Director Carrie Hessler-Radelet and Congressman Sam Farr will be holding a special public event to talk about “the opportunities the Peace Corps offers….” on Monday, September 19th at CSUMB in Marina. You can learn more by visiting this Event Information and Registration link. RSVP by September 15th!
Representative Farr is… well you know who Sam is! But did you know he was a Peace Corps Volunteer (Colombia 1964-66)? Director Hessler-Radelet visited us in Namibia a few weeks ago so will have fresh perspective on what we’re doing here. I didn’t get to meet her myself, but some of my Group 43 colleagues did and were very impressed with her commitment to helping us be more successful.
This photo was taken in the lobby of the Nakayale Vocational Training Centre, located just outside the town of Outapi in the Omusati Region, which is the work site of my Group 43 colleague, Mandeep Jangi (in the suit). Next to him are his NVTC Supervisor Mathilda Shipapo and PC Director Hessler-Radelet. Also pictured are former PC-N Country Director Carl Swartz, Education PCV Anna Loseke and PC-N Volunteer Support Manager Waldo Junius.
Hi Chris! I was a PCNAM 22 Volunteer from 2003-05 in Swakopmund. I am now living in Santa Cruz, CA – Thanks so much for posting the information about the Director’s visit!
Enjoy your time in Namibia- it is such a special place!
Hi, Alicia! Good to hear from you. I lived in Santa Cruz for most of the last 40 years, and am typing this from my hike spot in Arandis heading to Swakop for my bi-weekly shopping. Please email me at chris@wilmoth.com if you have the chance & interest to compare notes.
